The team is proud to announce that Diablo Immortal will launch simultaneously on mobile and in Open Beta on PC-complete with cross-play and cross-progression. Much like a teaser of Diablo IV (or IIII if Blizzard takes any more cues from Activision) would have brought joy to my heart. It doesn't answer the question posed from a Twitter user sans phone (I assume if you can't download the app you can't get a free burger, and I suppose that's a shame because anyone who can't afford a phone and a free app could probably use one) but it has brought joy to this author. So that's the joke, and it's pretty hilarious if you ask me. One of the developers responded, shockingly, "Do you guys not have phones?" as though this was the problem with Diablo: Immortal. Obviously the BlizzCon attendees have phones-they just don't want to play Diablo on their phones when they have perfectly wonderful gaming PCs chomping at the bit, ready to go for a spin.
So it makes sense that there was some disappointment in the audience.īlizzard, however, was taken off guard. The people listening to this announcement were not there to hear about a mobile game, they were there for some glimpse of something new on actual gaming platforms. After all, the company behind Warcraft, World of Warcraft and Overwatch has been one of the most beloved PC developers of all time, and its loyal fanbase tends to play on PC or, in a pinch, consoles. The fact is, most of the attendees at BlizzCon are PC or console gamers.
